Family Counselling Centre and Lambton Public Health Collaborating On An Enhanced Program That Will Streamline Support Services For Older Adults

SARNIA, ON - In an effort to ensure older adults are able to easily access support services while staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Family Counselling Centre (FCC) and Lambton Public Health (LPH) have partnered to create a single-point service for older adults in Sarnia-Lambton.

Modeled after an existing FCC program that provides information and referrals for all children’s services in Lambton County, the new Care Pathway for Older Adults will allow older adults, caregivers, and family members to call one number to access a wide array of support services.

“We know that the severity of COVID-19 disproportionally impacts older adults, and that feelings of isolation can be profoundly impactful to this community. As we anticipate another spike in COVID-19 cases in the near future (based on provincial modeling), and the implementation of new restrictions, Care Pathway for Older Adults will ensure that no one is left behind and can access services that will help them” said Dr. Ranade, Lambton’s Medical Officer of Health.

FCC is already equipped to handle the increase in access to services. “With the ongoing financial support of the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and United Way Sarnia-Lambton we’ve been able to increase the capacity of our Tel-Check and Distress Line programs to suit the growing needs of the community” said Hani Dajani, FCC Executive Director. “We can also provide additional services through other FCC community and clinical programs that can help the older adults in our community”. Where services are not offered by FCC, referrals will be made to the appropriate community service provider.

To access Care Pathway for Older Adults call the Family Counselling Centre at 519-336-0120. Ext 251. To learn more about COVID-19 supports in our community visit Lambton Public Health.
